Maintaining Your Electric Golf Cart’s Battery
Electric golf carts are affordable, quiet, eco-friendly and convenient to use. However, it is important to keep your electric cart well-maintained. One part of your golf cart that will require some extra attention is the battery, which keeps the cart running smoothly. Here are the steps to take to maintain and upkeep your electric golf cart’s battery.
Clean It Up
The terminals on your electric golf cart’s battery need to be free of corrosion, so you should check them on a regular basis. Remove any crusty corrosion and keep the terminals clean. You can also remove corrosion on the battery with a paste made from water and baking soda; just make sure that you’ve closed the vent caps and covered up electric parts first.
Fill It Up
The water level in your battery needs to be high enough to protect the plates and ensure that the level of electrolytes remains consistent. You can use a watering gun to accurately fill up your battery; it’s best to do this after you’ve charged the battery up. Use distilled water for filling your battery up.
Charge It Up
Finally, if you’re going to store your electric golf cart for more than a few days, it’s beneficial to remove the battery from the engine and place it on a tender charger in a warm, dry place. The charger will keep your battery charged up so that it doesn’t die, which would necessitate an expensive and premature replacement.
In general, you should keep your battery charged up and avoid driving your cart on a very low battery. Don’t allow the battery to drain completely if you can avoid it.
