History

In 1958, founder Bill Stevens of Augusta, Georgia, purchased the Landreath Machine Company from its Houston, Texas, owners so that he could turn it into a golf cart manufacturing company. He christened his new enterprise Club Car®. At first, Club Car manufactured three-wheeled carts, then moved onto carts with four wheels. 

In 1960, the first golf cart with a steering wheel rolled off their assembly lines. To promote his new company, Stevens and his son decided to drive one of their Club Car golf carts from Augusta to Dunedin, Florida, for the 1962 PGA show, a feat that increased the company’s profile and made a splash with those in attendance.

Further Developments

By the 1980s, Club Car® was ready to plunge into the burgeoning utility vehicle market and they manufactured their Carryall® vehicle family with the ability to traverse more rugged terrain. This only made Club Car more popular and they were able to reintroduce their Carryall family in 2014 with higher hauling capacities and improved fuel efficiency.
